Effectiveness of finite element (FE) models for welding plate structure is compared by combination of theoretical modeling with experiment research. Based on finite element analysis (FEA) software known as Abaqus and in terms of three different modeling methods to deal with welding connection, three FE models are constructed for three types of welding plate structures with shape of 'I','T' and '+', respectively. Five natural frequencies and the corresponding vibration modes are retrieved by modal analysis. Modal property experiment is conducted by the impact excitation method for welding plates with the same specification as that of the modelled objects. Comparison between tested data and FEA results is analyzed, and then accuracy of each modeling method is estimated.
