A series of aqueous ambient self-crosslinkable polyacrylate emulsion (AACPA) were successfully prepared by adding adipic acid dihydrazide (ADH) to the polyacrylate emulsion incorporating diacetone acrylamide (DAAM), which were synthesized by pre-emulsified and semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization technology. The particle size and its distribution, chemical structure, thermal property, mechanical property of AACPA latex film were investigated. The results showed that the particle size of AACPA became smaller and its PSD got narrower compared with conventional polyacrylate emulsion (CPA). Tg of AACPA latex film was higher than that of CPA latex film and it was rised with increasing DAAM content. Stress-strain tests in latex films indicated that self-crosslinked cured films were tougher and exhibited smaller deformations at break.
