The Artificial Bee Colony or ABC is one of the newest additions to the class of Nature Inspired Algorithms (NIA) mimicking the foraging behavior of honey bees. In ABC, the food locations represent the potential candidate solution. In the present study an attempt is made to generate the population of food sources (Colony Size) adaptively with the help of proposed algorithm ABC-SAC (artificial bee colony with self-adaptive colony). ABC-SAC is further is modified by varying the behavior of bees in search of food and the corresponding variants are named as ABC-SAC1 and ABC-SAC2. The proposed algorithms are validated on a set of standard benchmark problems with varying dimensions taken from literature and the numerical results are compared with the basic ABC and one its recent variant gbest ABC, which indicate the competence of the proposed algorithms.
