There is much interest today in establishing material property data for fire models. Yet much pastwork has been done to identify key fire properties and methods for measuring them. Tewarson and Lyonhave been responsible for establishing databases in these terms. These properties include: (1) HeatRelease Parameter, HRP, the ratio of heat of combustion to heat of gasification; (2) Thermal ResponseParameter, TRP, (3) Critical Heat Flux for piloted ignition, CHF; and (4) Available Energy Parameter perunit area, AEP. Examples will be shown how these can be systematically measured. It will be shown howheat of gasification is related to more fundamental properties involving specific heats, heats of phasechange, and char. It will be shown why these are the key canonical set of needed properties, and it will bedemonstrated why they are sufficient to model any fire scenario involving the material. Examples ofcorrelating the ISO room Corner Test and the UL 94 test with these materials will be given.
