POWER SUPPLY UNIT FOR HIGHLY DEMANDING SAR ANTENNA TRANSMITTER/RECEIVER MODULES

This paper describes how the specific requirementsrelevant to the Power Supply Unit (PSU) [or Tile PowerSupply Unit – TPSU] for the Transmitter and Receiver(TR) modules of a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) hasbeen dealt with in different applications.The PSU is a multi output DC/DC converter providingthe high power and low power supplies to theTransmitter and Receiver modules and the control logic,with a controlled switch on and switch off sequence.The PSU shall have to adapt to the SAR antennastructure and to cope with the severe constraintsimposed by the application.The PSU characteristics in different X-band, C-band, LbandSAR applications, in particular as far as theconversion efficiency, the mass, size and power qualityare concerned, are reported.In flight operation, qualification test results anddevelopment status are also addressed.
