Dynamic crack propagation through a perpendicular interface in a glassspecimen was investigated to understand the interaction between the crackand the interface under impact loading. The specimen consisted of two glassplates jointed with epoxy adhesive. One of the plates had a notch for aplastic projectile to strike on. A single crack developed from the notch tip,and propagated perpendicularly into the interface. The patterns of crackpropagation across the interface depend on the adhesive conditions on theinterface. The crack was arrested at the interface without any adhesive. Thecrack passed across a firmly bonded interface with little obstruction by theinterface. The crack branched into multiple cracks after it passes through athicker interface filled with adhesive.
