Garland Fulton and the Rise and Fall of the Airship in The United States Navy

In 2006, the U.S. Navy acquired a new aircraft, the MZ-3A, the first airship to enter the inventory in forty-four years. Does this acquisition mark the rebirth of the old tradition of lighter-than-air craft in the Navy? Time will tell. The pursuit of new experiments with a modern blimp suggests, however, the need to take a fresh look at the history of the airship in naval service.
