The SAGE4 Geared Turbofan (GTF) Demonstrator is envisioned to assess further advancements of the current geared fan technology in order to provide significant contributions towards the ambitious targets of the Advisory Council for Aeronautical Research in Europe (ACARE) in 2020. Furthermore, the SAGE4 Demonstrator is supposed to integrate advanced technologies and to validate these features to a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 6 and beyond. The SAGE4 demonstrator activities are focused on dedicated components of the engine, such as the High Pressure Compressor, the High Speed Low Pressure Turbine, Turbine Structures, the Fan Drive Gear System and the Engine Controls System. The mechanical behavior of the design features will be demonstrated in a full scale engine environment. The SAGE4 demonstration is led by MTU Aero Engines and involves the partners Volvo Aero and Avio in the program. Further partners will be selected through the Clean Sky "Calls for Proposals" process, in order to support the challenging task of SAGE4.
