To meet the demands of efficiency and compactness of centrifugal compressor for small gas turbines, the main attention must be given to the design of the impeller and diffuser components separately and to the matching between components. The paper presented an optimization design process of a centrifugal compressor's impeller and vaned diffuser during the development of 100kW class micro gas turbine. Firstly, the centrifugal impeller was redesigned by using the optimization method based on a reference impeller. Then, the matching design between the impeller and vaned diffuser was performed to achieve the optimal stage optimal performance. To validate the optimization result, the centrifugal impeller and vaned diffuser were manufactured and tested finally. The experiment showed that the stage's isentropic efficiency was increased by 0.7% under the design condition when compared with the original design.
