This paper outlines a new aerodynamic design concept for a transonic swept outlet guide vane (OGV) with a novel wave type casing profile, placed downstream of a transonic fan rotor in a small turbofan engine. Based on a validated 3D RANS code, the flow mechanisms of the wave type casing profile, which results in a loss reduction of about 20%, see [1], are investigated. The effects of the first concave casing profile in the OGV passage and the second concave profile downstream of OGV TE are discussed and the reasons why the wave type casing profile is superior to the conventional casing profile are presented.
