The Next 100 Years: Cost Effective Design and Rehabilitation of Masonry Arch Bridges

Faced with an increasing number of structural failures to its masonry arch bridge population, PennDOT District 6-0 developed a rehabilitation program that provided for streamlined project design delivery, cost effective repairs and the preservation of historic and aesthetic values. To date, rehabilitation plans for over 20 masonry arch bridges have been completed and awarded for construction using this streamlined process. The paper will focus on the steps taken to improve efficiency and the cost effective repair measures utilized.
