For the project described herein, Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniquesal-lowed for the rapid replacement of aging, deteriorated deck slabs and superstructures ofhighway overpass bridges in a high-traffic urban interchange with minimal disruptions to thetraveling public. Micropile foundations allowed for widening of existing foundations inconstrained work zones. The demolition of the existing superstructures and installation ofprefabricated superstructure units (PSUs) was completed within each of the ten, 55-hour longweekend construction windows and the project’s aggressive schedule was met with minimaltraffic disruption. This paper describes the details that were utilized and lessons learned fromthe successful completion of this project.
