RCM-Xport is a numerical model for contaminant flux and transportthrough contaminated aquatic sediment with an overlying reactive core mat (RCM). Thenumerical model is based on work of Alshawabkeh et al. (2005), which accounts forcontaminant transport through a conventional sand cap overlying a contaminated sedimentlayer. The formulation of the present numerical model is based on Terzaghi infinitesimalstrain consolidation theory with solute transport through the saturated porousmedia, reactive/advective transport through the RCM layer assuming a linear sorptionisotherm, and nonreactive/advective transport through the overlying sand layer. Thispaper presents the theoretical and numerical development of the RCM-Xport model,solution of numeric examples and comparison of model results with experimental dataobtained with the ICSTAC testing device.
