Improvement of Structural Design Considering Fatigue Strength for Bulk Carriers with CSR Notation

With reference to the requirements about the fatigue design stipulated in the IACS CSR bulk carriers rule and based on the experience in plan approval and operation, the special attention should be paid on the deck plating in way of the most stressed hatch corners and transverse bulkhead and its associated lower stool including both the most stressed connection of the corrugations with the lower stool and most stressed connection of the lower stool with the inner bottom in heavy ballast hold. Then design and anti-fatigue codes for the places in which fatigue often takes place are proposed, the efficient design approach are recommended for the structural pattern. TIG (tungsten inert gas) dressing as a post-weld improvement techniques may be supplemented into CSR because the weld toe is remolten in order to remove the weld toe undercut or other irregularities and to smoothen the stress concentration of the weld transition.
