In order to analysis dynamic characteristics of steel frame with different patterns of brace,three structures with braces of X,V and inverted V patterns were designed utilizing PKPM software,respectively. Sizes of main members and dynamic characteristics are obtained through design. Based on structural design,finite element analyses were made by using ANSYS and Sap2000 to explore the effects exerted from different patterns brace on structural stiffness. Results showed that braces of V and inverted V patterns are very similar and they are more effective than X pattern. Conclusions might be useful in practical engineering design during structural system selection.
