Business process modeling (BPM) is one form of technologies and standards for modeling any type of process. It primarily is used for modeling business or system processes, yet you can also use it for designing instructional materials. The concepts behind BPM are similar to mindmapping or brainstorming. It is another method for getting ideas on paper to follow a logical order flow to a finished product. This paper discusses what BPM is (the process design concepts to consider), the role it plays in instructional design and learning (that is, how I have adapted it for my instructional use), and view a sample BPM model. At the end of this paper, you will find a list of recommended references where you can learn more about BPM.
