This study aims to develop a spatial rainfall model for four meteorological stations in the River Murray upper reaches within the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB) in Australia. We use the sum of n correlated Gamma variables to model the sum of monthly rainfall totals for four stations within the MDB whenever there is significant correlation between the stations. The sum of n correlated Gamma variables has been used successfully in the telecommunications field. We assess the statistical significance of our model for four meteorological stations using the KolmogorovSmirnov goodness of fit test The results demonstrate that the sum of n correlated Gamma model is suitable in spatial rainfall modeling.
