Crack displacement monitoring is an effective geological hazard monitoring technology. But the traditional manual measurements have been eliminated and the existing automatic monitoring equipments have lots of disadvantages for the low accuracy, high power consumption and low degree of practical drawbacks. In this paper, digital filtering and curve fitting techniques, GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications) and low power consumption control techniques have been adopted to develop a high-precision, low-power and unattended remote monitoring instrument named CUT-5000 Crack Remote Monitor System. In November 2009, we used CUT-5000 system to monitor the surface crack of Panzhihua airport 12# landslide. We have installed five monitoring nodes with an interval of about 80 meters turn parallel to the groove direction, and four kinds sensors with the range of 200mm, 350mm, 450mm and 700mm according to the crack width range have been used. Fourl.2V/2400mAh of NiMH rechargeable batteries have been used and the data acquisition interval is 136 minutes. At last, we obtained the first-hand monitoring data and successfully predicted an unstable landslide. Application results show that the CUT-5000 system can meet the practical application requirements because of its high accuracy, low power consumption, easy installation and other advantages and so the method is feasible and has some promotional value.
