SOUND INSULATION PERFORMANCE OF GYPSUM-BOARD WALLS

This study identified several factors that influence the sound insulation performance of gypsum-board walls, and presented the results. It selected ten different structures wherein changes in the sound insulation performance were measured and observed according to the methods used in attaching gypsum boards, installation of additional board, installation of sound absorbing material, curing time of the plaster, stud types. The results of this study indicate that joining boards by adhesives produces improve sound insulation performance than joining by screws, and that an additional board inserted in walls reduces the sound insulation performance by 3dB(Rw). Uncured plaster blocked sound better than after it had been cured, and insulation material applied on gaps did not have significant impacts.
