A summary on development and application of hydrofoil craft

Due to its merits of lower resistance, superior seakeeping performance, higher economic speed, etc., hydrofoil craft is widely applied to military and commercial field. In this paper, a general introduction on hydrofoil craft's characteristics, the origin of hydrofoil craft, together with the development and application of hydrofoil craft in military and civil area in China and other countries are provided. Outlook for future development on hydrofoil craft is presented, a development direction of hybrid hydrofoil craft is emphasized on.
