Racking Performance of Wood Shear Walls Fabricated Using Chinese Wood-Based Panels

The initiative of this test program is to investigate the racking performance of Wood framed Shear Walls Fabricated Using Chinese Wood-Based Panels, gypsum wallboards and magnesium oxide wallboards. Tests have been conducted on 2.4 by 2.4 m (8 by 8 ft) wood frame shear walls to determine and compare the wall performance sheathed with different sheathing materials. A total of 10 tests have been conducted: 2 OSB (Chinese made) sheathed walls, 2 OSB (imported) sheathed walls, 2 plywood (Chinese made) sheathed walls, 2 gypsum board (Chinese made) sheathed walls and 2 magnesium oxide board (Chinese made) sheathed walls. Tests were conducted using ASTM E-564 test procedure. Test results suggested that: walls that fabricated using Chinese wood-based panels exhibit acceptable performance in terms of ductility, strength, displacement capability, energy dissipation capability. Gypsum board sheathed walls and magnesium oxide board sheathed walls exhibit significant lateral resistance, their structural potential can be supplement to Chinese wood design code in future.
