Wuhan new railway station consists of main arch structure, main arch truss structure, intermediate reticulated shells,subordinate arch and subordinate arch truss structure,interlayer structure and elevator derrick structure and the maximum span of main arch is 116 meter,section is oval and round,total steel consumption is 63 thousand tons. The project adopts vibrating string extensometer monitoring technology to monitor slippage construction progres sion of Wuhan new railway station. It also monitors some important stages in construction-slippage stage and steel pull-rod stretch-draw stage. The comparison of monitoring result with construction simulation calculation result of Wuhan new railway station shows that the structure after construction, displacement and strain of each main refer ence point is identical with construction simulation value. The technology can be applied into the construction moni toring of other large steel structure.
