Study on Simulation Platform of Urban Traffic Signal Control System

System evaluation is an important task for research and development of any practical systems such as urban traffic control system (UTCS) or urban traffic signal control system (UTSCS), but ordinary analysis methods or on-the-spot tests are usually infeasible for such evaluation because of their large-scale complexity and concomitant great social effects during operation of the systems. Meanwhile, method and technology of computer simulation can be used with great success in such circumstance. Research on platform for evaluating UTCS based on computer simulation has been made in this paper. Furthermore, a traffic simulation model for signalized traffic networks that is the kernel of the evaluation platform is built up by the object-oriented method, and the prototype is implemented in the integrated development environment of Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. Finally, some ideas about how to improve the simulation model and the prototype as well as directions of future research are summarized.
