In the network economy era, many e-commerce companies are eliminated in the competition and only a small number of enterprises obtain tremendous benefits. Obviously, it is caused by the lack of core competence for those eliminated enterprises. The author read a large number of domestic and international references about core competence of ecommerce enterprises and understood the current situation and results of research in the field. On this basis, the author made comparative analysis on ebay and Taobao through case study to find core competence of e-commerce enterprises. To understand the actual situation of the subjects in depth, the author obtained the second-hand information through the papers, statistics and research reports, and obtained first-hand data through in-depth research in units and communications with managers, technical staff. Through investigation and analysis, this paper gives core competence of e-commerce enterprises that includes technological innovation, reducing costs, developing markets, and marketing innovation to provide some guidance for the development of ecommerce enterprises in China.
