Treating the four geotechnical parameters k, c, Φ, and G as random variables in Duncan-Chang model, the consolidation problem considering probability in consolidation process was developed using the improved Gauss-Legendre numerical integration in this study which is based on Biot's consolidation FEM to improve the calculation efficiency of the Monte Carlo simulation. The calculation result indicates that the proposed method can meet the requirement of real projects. The calculated settlement comparison using Beta and normal distributions shows that the assumption of normal distribution of geotechnical parameters is adequate for the geotechnical problem. It can be concluded that the numerical integration based on Biot's consolidation FEM is effective to calculate the probabilistic consolidation settlement in soft soil area.
