Gamma irradiation is commonly used in the sterilization of food products, pharmaceutical materials, and medical devices. For polymeric materials, the ionizing radiation can result in crosslinking and chain scission. Thermal analysis has been extensively utilized to characterize polymers in the solid state as well as in solution. This presentation will discuss the application of thermal analysis to characterize changes in a pharmaceutical suspension post gamma irradiation.
