Adhesive lamination Vs Extrusion Lamination In general "adhesive lamination", covers a significant number of technologies used in flexible substrates lamination to produce complex compounds out of several layers of a variety of substrates. Flexible substrates definition covers those webs, generally produced and handled in rolls, with the characteristic not to be rigid. As flexible we can therefore define: every variety of natural or synthetic polymer film or foam; foil; paper. Technology evolved significantly in the past 3 to 4 decades. The growth of packaging and of a number of consumer related application, involving flexible substrates, brought the need to investigate new adhesives with specific mechanical characteristics. The target is always to allow the final laminated compound to properly perform in function of the specific application: food packaging; non-food packaging; industrial products. An important effort in research and development has been spent, on both adhesive and machinery, in order to comply with the needs of an evolving society. New adhesives and processes therefore have been developed to answer to the request of limitation of emissions, energy saving, consumer safety. Therefore in general not only the segment of reference is "Flexible" because of the substrates, but the adhesive lamination technology itself underwent rapid evolutions and adaptations to withstand and adapt itself to market request, in a much more "Flexible" way with respect to other technologies.
