Without packaging materials and packages modern life would not be possible. Producers and users of packaging materials and packages who currently use chemicals must confirm whether they will use these chemicals in the future. REACH legislation will bring for all downstream users like producers of adhesives and producers of packaging (articles) a lot of additional work in communication with suppliers, in compiling more-detailed Safety Data Sheets, in communication with customers, and in compliance checking of substances. Relating to the registration process, producers/importers must make sure that the use of the substance (as defined by Identified Uses, Exposure Scenarios and Risk Management Measures) by themselves and their customers like the packaging industry, is covered by the registration dossier. In combination with the increased knowledge of substances, this regulation will lead to a safer use of substances in the whole value chain.
