Aerospace Meteorology plays an important role in the design and operation of aerospacevehicles and in the associated integrity of aerospace systems and elements. This paperaddresses some of the key Aerospace Meteorology issues and “lessons learned” that havebeen identified over a number of years and documented. Many of these issues and lessonsoccurred during the involvement of the authors with the development and interpretation ofaerospace environment inputs, especially those of the terrestrial environment, for design anddevelopment requirements, and associated mission operations. Background for the actionsneeded to avoid the issue being repeated or the lesson having to be re-learned for both launchvehicle and spacecraft design and development are discussed. Some examples of the definitionof the terrestrial environment for use in aerospace vehicle development are also presented.
