Often, reliability is not enforced at the link layer on the links between the higher capacity routers. For this reason, the TCP transport protocol provides reliable exchange of the control information needed by the control plane protocols, such us RIP, LDP or BGP. TCP protocol is designed for end-to-end communication and is consequently overbuilt for providing reliability between neighboring routers. In this paper, we propose a light reliable protocol that will protect control packets exchanged between routers. It will be based on the LLC (Link Layer Control) protocol which is standardized by IEEE to provide reliable transmission over the variety of links. Our proposed protocol will be implemented on the FPGA chips in order to increase its scalability and speed. Its implementation will be analyzed in terms of the speed and utilized chip resources.
