The detecting technique of root stones along the Yellow River dyke has always been an important problem being paid for attention by the Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC). According to difficult problem of the stone detect in the Yellow River channel project, this paper particularly introduced key technology of the stone position fixing system, including energy supply, sonar technology underwater, transmit and incept circuitry of sonar, position fixing technology etc. This paper especially researched application of sonar position fixing technology underwater and introduced four sonar position fixing methods. Taking into account the practicality of the system, this article combined the use of underwater short baseline GPS positioning technology. The use of underwater acoustic positioning technology would extend high-precision GPS positioning capability to water underwater. The system would access to the land of stone latitude and longitude coordinates. The stone latitude and longitude coordinates could be intuitive displayed in the PC monitoring software and the monitoring software could depict the track of the lost stone to analysis of patterns and trends of the lost stone. The purpose in this paper was to find the law of stone loss and detect loss stone effectively and practically, by tracking and monitor distributing of the synthetic stones.
