Based on theory of sediment transport and river-bed evolution law, pollutant transport law was discussed from the micro-aspects, and a 2-D unsteady flow flow-sediment-water quality mathematical model was established, to study the quality of water environment in the key reached of an urgent and eco-friendly water-transfer project from Yellow River to Baiyangdian (hereby referred as Y-B Project). The model includes calculation of the sand transport and riverbed deformation of scour and silting, reflecting the flow being altered by sediment content and bed developing, which in turn drive the pollutant transport and is consistent with the actual case of heavy sediment and dual channel in down stream Yellow River. Water quality data measured in 2008 was calculated to determine the degradation coefficient set including TN, TP, COD, F-, MnO4-and NH3-N etc. on which verified the major reach observed water quality data of the diverting the Yellow River to the Baiyangdian in 2006. The results shows that the model fitted the observed data quite well and could simulate the variation of the water quality well.
