Suspensions of solid particles in shear-thinning fluids are used in many industries, but not alot is known about their rheological behavior. A model to determine the rheologicalproperties of the suspension for a Power-Law fluid is proposed. A suspension of solidparticles in a fluid is treated as a new homogeneous fluid with new rheological properties.The equations for a creeping, steady-state, two-dimensional flow of a near-Newtonian fluidhave been developed. These equations have been solved for a dilatational flowfield around acylinder. The new rheological properties of a dilute suspension of cylinders in a near-Newtonian fluid have been obtained. The resulting fluid is found to be more shear-thinning.A dilute suspension in a Newtonian fluid shows a non-Newtonian, shear-thinning behavior.
