Effects of double metallic ions doping on the photocatalytic activities of TiO2

The bare and Ce-Cu, Ce-Ag doped titania (TiO2) nanoparticles were prepared by a sol-gel process and characterized by XRD and TEM. The morphologies of the particles varied with the doping condition. The component of rutile of bare TiO2, 0.1%Ce-TiO2, 0.1%Ce-0.075%Cu-TiO2, 0.1%Ce-0.05%Ag-TiO2 at 500°C was 4.96%, 2.67%, 21.07%, 13.65% respectively and the diameter of TiO2 particle was 17.78nm, 14.48nm, 14.67nm, 15.64nm respectively. The photocatalytic activities of the bare and double metallic ions doped TiO2 nanoparticles were investigated by the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange under ultraviolet lamp. The results showed that the photocatalytic performance of TiO2 was enhanced greatly owing to co-doping ions.
