Societies dependence on fossil fuel for mass production, mass consumption and mass disposal has caused various environmental problems such as global warming, pollution wastes and toxic substances. Moreover, economic and population growth is leading to both increased energy consumption and increase in green house gas emissions.Sugar industry can play a pivotal role in partially meeting the increased energy demand by setting up bagasse based Co-gen units, which have been set up in number of sugar units across the country. But sugar industry being seasonal in nature is not able to fully cope up with the energy demand throughout the year. Moreover the industry has been experiencing shortage of cane crop for last two years resulting in less production of bagasse thereby less co-generation.Given this situation it has became urgently necessary from Indian sugar industry perspective to think upon and create sustainable, environmentally recycling oriented ways and mean to generate energy.Bio-mass is usually thought of as a garbage, some of it is just stuff lying around, cane leave trash, cane tops, paddy, wheat, mustard straw, agriculture fields residue, wood chips etc.This stuff nobody seems to want can be used to produce heat/electricity after combining/mixing with bagasse.This paper attempts to disseminate and share information with regards to effective use of biomass as a part of measure to generate more energy without adding to global warming and also Simbhaoli's experience in use of Biomass.
