Numerical Analysis on a Novel Water Chiller Using Liquid Desiccant

A new type of liquid desiccant water chiller for applications on air-conditioning or refrigeration is introduced in this paper. Different from conventional vapor-compression refrigerator, the system can be driven by low grade heat source with temperature of 60-80°C, such as fiat plat solar collector, waste heat etc. To study the system performance, numerical model is developed. Effects of various parameters on performance are discussed, including evaporating temperature, regenerating temperature, ambient condition, and mass flow rates of closed moist air and regenerating air. The results show that the regenerating temperature and humidity ratio of ambient air are two main factors while the temperature of ambient air affects less. And it is extravagant to increase mass flow rate of regenerating air excessively, while mass flow rate of closed moist air should be chosen carefully for economic operation.
