Insitu Tunable Diode Lasers (TDLs) are ideal for measuring oxygen (O_2) for control and safety applications in various industries. They offer extremely fast response to abrupt O_2 concentration changes, have no extractive type sample handling systems, can be used in dirty, highly corrosive samples with very low maintenance and subsequent high up time. One operational issue has been problematic; automatic, online calibration of the O_2 TDL. This paper explains the design and advantages of an internal reference cell which continually, on line, automatically calibrates a TDL measuring O_2.
