Influence of Composition and Geometry on Chewability of Tablets

Chewing is one of the most commonly applied methods of abuse for controlled release opioid products.So called chewability was assessed by employing three different test methods to tablets of different formulation and construction: micro-hardness, tablet force and chewing sustainability. Both formulation and construction influenced chewabiliy properties which in all cases were superior to the commercial product used as comparator.
