The mountain pavement in Southwestern China is likely to produce rut, cracks, and subsidence because the area is high in temperature and rainy. Therefore, this poses strict requirement concerning high temperature stability and water stability of pavement performance. This paper puts forward the new SBS asphalt mixture design, basement design, and construction method based on optimal mineral aggregate gradation in the design of pavement of JiangjinHejiang segment of ChengduChongqing highway. Indexes of the segment built up in two years are good; the benefits achievement can be referenced by new highway construction and reconstruction. In the highway construction in western China, the most difficult constructing is in southwestern mountains. It is high in temperature and rainy in southwestern mountains, asphalt pavement needs strict pavement performance. Because high temperature (average temperature is more than 20°C in summer) is likely to cause rutting, the high temperature stability is very important in the asphalt mixture paving in construction. On the other hand, flood is the most important reason in pavement disease, reflection crack and net split and subsidence in rainy mountains (annual precipitation is more than 1400 mm). The aggregate gradation should meet the following requirements: (1) good anti-deformability in high temperature and resistant water damage ability; (2) good workability and compatibility in construction; (3) maintain the whole compactness of asphalt structure. Hence, this paper focuses on the design of pavement of Jiangjin-Hejiang segment of ChengduChongqing highway.
