Provincial Highway 303 Reconstruction Project is a key project of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" National Trunk Road Improvement Projects in shaanxi Province. The crucial section from Yan'an Wuqi presented an extra Large-Scale loess landslide during construction period. This landslide is an ancient landslide, as a result of excavation works and continual rainfall; the "revival" landslide is moving slowly. The landslide long approximately 480m, wide approximately520m; Sliding body average thickness is about 65m, Sliding mass volume approximately l 1,000,000 m3. At present the road is being under constructed, the moving landslides serious influenced the project investments and progress as well as threaten the newly built road sections and periphery residents' safety. Based on field investigations, explorations, in-situ shear tests and the laboratory tests, the landslide area engineering geology and the hydro-geological conditions are elaborated, the engineering geological characteristics of the landslide are carded out by a detailed survey; the causes of the landslide mechanism are studied and analyzed; According to different presupposed working conditions, the stability is calculated and evaluated by adopting limit equilibrium analysis method and numerical simulation. Finally, compared with technical, economic, environmental impacts, a number of relevant engineering retaining measures are studied. The final design plan is recommended. After the comprehensive implementation completes, the landslide will be effectively controlled, the highway will be constructed normally. Therefore, the results are of great significance in practice.
