The concept of steel-tube composite piles and the mechanism of comprehensive strengthening of such piles were given and discussed. Two successful applications of reinforcing the ground base and foundation with the use of the above composite piles are listed. By comparing to the pressure concrete grout, the method using composite piles has more advantages to improve the mechanical properties of the surrounding rock and soil medium obviously , as well as increasing the bearing capacity of composite piles and controlling the sedimentation of the ground base and foundation obviously. The characteristics of the composite piles and its practical application values in the reinforcement of the ground base and foundation were summarized and discussed.
