Turnover-based storage policies store items with the highest turnover in the most convenient locations. For single-commandtravel, the convenience of a storage location is proportional to its distance from the pickup/deposit point. In dual-command travel, the optimal slotting strategy is not as apparent. We develop a heuristic search algorithm anduse it to investigate the optimal storage policies for dual-command operations in common aisle layouts, and in twonon-traditional aisle layouts using fishbone aisles and a flying-V cross aisle. The impact of optimal slotting, versusdistance-based slotting, is assessed.
