Timber joints with slotted in steel plates and high strength steel fasteners have been tested. Goal of the research was to find out whether the current design equations in Eurocode 5 would also hold for specific high strength steel fasteners with a tensile strength of around 1300 N/mm~2 and a ratio between yield and ultimate strength of about 0.95. In addition, the effect of the number of fasteners in one row has been analysed for joints with 1, 3 and 5 dowels respectively. Since the dowels deformed in a plastic manner, it could be shown that the effective number of fasteners was much higher than currently accounted for in Eurocode 5. The deformation capacity at failure decreased with increased number of fasteners, but joints always gave a plastic failure.
