Pillared carbons were prepared from graphite oxide silylated by 3-aminopropylethoxysilanes and characterized in detail. When pillared carbon was prepared from graphite oxide silylated by 3-aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane, the interlayer spacing was around 1.3 nm, regardless of the silicon contents and the pillar contained methyl groups. When pillared carbon was prepared from graphite oxide silylated by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, the interlayer spacing was 1.6 nm which larger than that obtained from graphite oxide silylated by 3-aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane.
