Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) have drawn much attention because of their unique physical properties and potential applications. The properties of CNTs are dependent on their structures and geometry. Y-type CNTs with a special morphology have been reports on the electronic properties. In this work, Y-type CNTs obtained by CCVD method were characterized by XRD, FESEM and HRTEM. The growth mechanisms of the CNTs were discussed. The formation of Y-type CNTs is relative to the size of metal particles catalysts, shape and surface curvature. It grows in two modes: it grows along two flanks branches of catalysts or grows respectively after the catalysts decomposing.
