3D Modeling and Volume Visualization of Urban Subsurface Geological Structure

In this paper, the mixed modeling method combining surface modeling and volume modeling is used to construct urban subsurface geological structure firstly using existing technique of 3D modeling and visualization for reference, which considers effectively the layer and block structure characteristic inside urban subsurface geological body. Then, volume visualization scheme is designed and 3D volume visualization of subsurface quaternary geological structure is made based on Visual C++.NET and OpenGL in a city of eastern China. Many functions have been achieved, such as monolayer and multilayer visualization display of geological body and multi-angle of view dynamic display including zooming in, zooming out, rotation and roam of urban subsurface geological body. 3D inner geological structure of urban subsurface geological body also is displayed preferably through linear cutting, slope cutting, poly-line cutting and polygon cutting etc.
