Developing a Quick Assessment Tool for Annual HVAC Energy Consumption of Commercial Buildings in Taiwan

Chiller capacity derivation and HVAC annual energy consumption are quite difficult to estimate due to the need for sophisticated hourly load calculations.The entire process is time-consuming and generally requires professional assistance which impedes work objectives.It becomes arduous for architects to relate their building envelope design to concrete annual HVAC energy use.For the purpose to facilitate assessment work and to avoid using difficult simulation tools for annual HVAC energy use prediction of commercial buildings,the research tries to integrate Taiwan's building envelope index (ENVLOAD) to develop a quick assessment tool into the prediction models.Equivalent full load hours (EFLH)are introduced to estimate the chillers' annual energy performance.The predicting models are established using multi-regression method from a verity of DOE-2 simulations.Energy predicting models of other HVAC apparatus are also built from regression method.The whole HVAC annual energy use assessment starts from the estimation of rational maximum choler's capacity,then compares to the actual installed choler's capacity thus takes the chiller over-sizing effect into consideration,and lastly to annual HVAC energy use.
