For effective management of downhole scale squeeze treatments, especially in fields withharsh scaling regimes or in sub-sea and deep water wells, the accurate, rapid and reliablemonitoring of scale inhibitor content in the produced water is a necessity if the benefits ofthese treatments are to be fully realised.This paper will provide an overview of the existing scale inhibitor detection techniquesand highlight the some of the problems with each technique. In addition, improveddetection techniques for both sulphonated and maleic polymers and the benefits providedto downhole scale management in sub-sea and deep water wells will be presented.
