摘要

It is clear that the Pasig River was severely contaminated with enteric viruses. The concentrations were comparable to those in raw wastewater in Cambodia and Japan. The relative viral concentrations in the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia and Japan indicated that the prevalence of Enterovirus and Adenovirus infection in the Metro-Manila area were higher than other Southeast Asian countries and Japan. This study showed possibility that water monitoring data in populated area can be used to estimate prevalence of infectious enteric diseases in the area. As water monitoring is much easier than clinical surveillance study (i.e. much fewer samples are required), this approach is very useful especially where public health surveillance system is not well established.
