Special Formulated Curatives for MbOCA Replacement and High Temperature Applications

In Polyurethane Europe, regulation is tightening on MbOCA usage as a curative. We are working to provide a series of alternative curatives to provide similar or better physical property as a drop-in replacement. We developed several formulations that can give a conventional TDI prepolymer the similar hardness and property as MOCA with different gel times that machine mix and hand mix manufactures can choose from. We also developed several curatives for use with conventional MDI prepolymers for high temperature applications which impart less thermoplastic behavior to the polymer compared to a 1,4 butanediol cure. For example, to react with a conventional MDI prepolymer which gives 92A with BDO, this curative can give 63D and holds 96A at 300F(150 C) after 20 hours; 94A at 350F(177C) after 20 hours. A comparison of physical properties to the performance using selected typical curatives including HQEE will also be given, some with DMA test data.
